In 1951, Elizabeth Bishop, a reserved poet from New York, journeys to Rio de Janeiro to reconnect with her college friend Mary. Immersed in the vibrant Brazilian culture, Elizabeth finds herself contrasting sharply with Mary’s charismatic partner, architect Lota de Macedo Soares. As tension simmers, Mary’s jealousy grows, but the bold Lota is determined to keep both women in her life. Set against the backdrop of Brazil's 1964 military coup, this poignant narrative weaves together themes of love and rivalry, revealing a transformative period in the life of the Pulitzer Prize-winning poet.
