Jin's piercing gaze meets the camera as her sister, the documentarian, prompts her to reflect on her past. The memories are haunting, rooted in the dark realities of China’s one-child policy from the 1990s. During this era, the preference for boys led to the heartbreaking practice of aborting female fetuses, even late in pregnancy, and many newborn girls faced abandonment. Jin's own story is a miracle; she survived for a week in a box on the streets, a testament to resilience amidst a troubling cultural backdrop that devalued her very existence.
