Telling the story of massive oil discoveries near Scotland's coast and their subsequent privatization during the Thatcher years, The Oil Machine explores oil's pivotal yet often unseen role in shaping UK economic and public policy. Following the urgency for climate action highlighted by COP26 in Glasgow, the film captures the growing pressure on oil companies and the government alike. Through a diverse array of perspectives—from industry leaders and economists to passionate young activists—Davie crafts a compelling and insightful examination of the ways in which this pervasive system might be challenged and ultimately transformed.
