Amá

Amá unveils a harrowing chapter in American history, focusing on the systemic abuses faced by Native American women during the 1960s and 70s. Filmmaker Lorna Tucker spent nine years meticulously gathering insights and testimonies from survivors, including three courageous women: Jean Whitehorse, Yvonne Swan, and Charon Aseytoyer. Their narratives highlight the traumatic experiences of family separations, forced relocations, and involuntary sterilizations. The documentary also features a rare interview with Dr. Reimart Ravenholt, whose controversial population control policies significantly impacted Native American communities, shedding light on a largely overlooked issue.
