Androcles and the Lion

George Bernard Shaw’s charming adaptation of a timeless fable explores themes of compassion and modern Christian values. The story follows Androcles, a Christian slave who performs the selfless act of removing a thorn from a lion's paw, ultimately saving him from execution in the Colosseum. Alan Young shines in the lead role, embodying the character's innocence, while a stellar cast, including Jean Simmons, Victor Mature, Robert Newton, and Elsa Lanchester, enriches the narrative. Shaw's final production, directed by Pascal, blends humor and heart, bringing the classic tale to life with warmth and wit.
