The Spruce Forest delves into a haunting chapter of Romanian history. Based on the tragic events of Fântâna Albă on April 1, 1941, the film recounts the harrowing experiences of a Romanian community in Bessarabia, who were brutally killed while seeking safety from Soviet forces. A survivor's account of this atrocity serves as the foundation for the narrative, interwoven with archival footage and recollections from his wife about Siberia. This intricate interplay of perspectives challenges our understanding of historical truth and uncovers buried traumas that continue to resonate in the present.
