Ay Mariposa

Set against the backdrop of the Lower Rio Grande Valley, Ay Mariposa intertwines the lives of three individuals impacted by the proposed US-Mexico border wall. Marianna Trevino Wright, director of the National Butterfly Center, emerges as a staunch opponent of the wall, facing threats from supporters while grappling with the complexities of border policy. Zulema Hernandez, a lifelong migrant worker and great-grandmother, passionately advocates for marginalized communities. The narrative also highlights the plight of the butterfly, la mariposa, struggling for survival as its habitat dwindles. Together, they embody resilience and a shared commitment to justice and beauty in their homeland.
