Ingrid Jonker navigates the tumultuous landscape of Apartheid while grappling with her father's role as Minister of Censorship. Her quest for belonging and affection leads her to passionate relationships with literary figures like Jack Cope and André Brink, yet true home remains elusive. Jonker's poignant work culminates in Nelson Mandela's historic address to the South African Parliament, where he honors her as one of the nation's greatest poets, reciting her powerful poem "The Dead Child of Nyanga" and solidifying her legacy in the fight against oppression.
