Trevor Nunn's acclaimed Royal Shakespeare Company production of Macbeth comes to life in this 1978 televised adaptation, featuring Ian McKellen in the titular role and Judi Dench as Lady Macbeth. Directed by Philip Casson, the performance retains the intimacy of the original staging at The Other Place in Stratford-upon-Avon, where it was presented in the round. With minimalistic sets and simple costumes, the recording captures the essence of the play, using a circular stage and subtle lighting shifts to convey different settings, emphasizing the raw emotional power of Shakespeare's tragedy.
