German filmmaker Wim Wenders embarks on a journey to uncover the essence of Tokyo as captured in Yasujiro Ozu's classic films. However, he discovers a city that has transformed dramatically, revealing a stark contrast to Ozu's serene portrayals. Through interviews and personal reflections, Wenders navigates the bustling metropolis, examining its modernity and the remnants of its past. This documentary serves as both a homage to Ozu’s cinematic legacy and a poignant exploration of cultural shifts, inviting viewers to contemplate the enduring impact of art on our perception of place and identity.
