Munro, a soldier who has embraced the life of a lay preacher, arrives in New Zealand with the intention of guiding the first British colonists. However, his mission takes an unexpected turn when he encounters Maianui, a formidable chief whose influence transforms Munro's beliefs and aspirations. Instead of spreading his message to the colonists, Munro finds himself drawn into a new role, serving a cause that challenges his previous convictions and tests his loyalty in a rapidly changing world. The clash of cultures leads to profound revelations and unexpected alliances.
