King Henry VIII’s iconic ship, the Mary Rose, was dramatically raised from the seabed in 1982, marking a pivotal moment in maritime salvage history. This monumental event, which drew an audience of approximately 60 million viewers, is often likened to the 1961 recovery of the Swedish warship Vasa. Recently, 300 reels of film unearthed from The Mary Rose Trust's archives offer a deeper look into the painstaking and costly efforts behind this extraordinary operation, shedding new light on the challenges and triumphs of raising the historic vessel.
