Economist Stephanie Kelton embarks on a transformative exploration of Modern Money Theory (MMT), challenging the pervasive notion of national debt as a burden on taxpayers. She argues that the National Debt Clock simply reflects the dollars created by the federal government, currently held as assets by citizens. As MMT gains traction in media discussions, questions arise about our understanding of government spending. While critics label the theory as “voodoo economics,” Kelton’s insights inspire a rethinking of financial narratives, offering hope and empowering nations to address pressing issues like climate change and inequality.
