Absent (2015)

Mărculești, once a thriving Jewish community in Bessarabia, faced a horrific tragedy in July 1941 that left deep scars. Over seven decades later, the truth about that dark chapter remains largely unacknowledged. ABSENT explores this ghost village through the eyes of its current residents, delving into their intricate ties to a past shrouded in silence. Shot entirely in Mărculești, the film captures the stark realities of one of Europe's most isolated and impoverished areas, highlighting how history continues to shape the lives of those who remain.
