Stephen William Hawking CH CBE FRS FRSA, born on January 8, 1942, and passing on March 14, 2018, was a renowned English theoretical physicist and cosmologist, celebrated for his groundbreaking contributions to our understanding of the universe. Serving as the Director of Research at the Centre for T... Read moreheoretical Cosmology at the University of Cambridge, Hawking made significant strides in the field of theoretical physics.

Among his most notable achievements was his collaboration with Roger Penrose, which led to the formulation of the gravitational singularity theorems within the context of general relativity. Perhaps his most famous prediction was that black holes are not entirely black, suggesting they emit radiation—now known as Hawking radiation—due to quantum effects near the event horizon.

Hawking was also influential in merging the principles of general relativity with quantum mechanics, providing a unique perspective on cosmology. An ardent advocate for the many-worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics, he inspired countless individuals with his resilience in the face of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), which he battled for over five decades. His best-selling book, "A Brief History of Time," brought complex scientific concepts to the masses, making him a household name. Through his work, Hawking left an indelible mark on science and popular culture, solidifying his legacy as one of the greatest minds of our time.
