His career took off in the early 1940s, where he initially made a name for himself in directing and working in television. However, it was his venture into "gimmick films" that truly set him apart. Castle ingeniously combined horror with theatrical experiences, utilizing techniques such as “Percepto,” which involved vibrating seats in theaters during his film "The Tingler" (1959), and “Emergo,” where a skeleton flew over the audience in “House on Haunted Hill” (1959).

Among his most notable works are "13 Ghosts" (1960) and "The Night of the Iguana" (1964), which showcased his flair for engaging audiences beyond just the screen. His films often garnered cult status, and his impact on the horror genre is still felt today. Castle's work not only entertained but also revolutionized the way films were marketed, leaving a lasting legacy in the world of cinema.
