Oreskes is widely recognized for her investigations into how scientific knowledge is produced, communicated, and sometimes deliberately obscured. Her landmark 2010 book, *Merchants of Doubt*, co-authored with Erik M. Conway, drew striking parallels between the manufactured uncertainty surrounding climate change and earlier controversies over tobacco, acid rain, and ozone depletion. The book, which was later adapted into a documentary film, cemented her reputation as a leading voice in the fight against misinformation.

Beyond her work on doubt-mongering, Oreskes has published extensively on the history of earth sciences, including her influential research on the scientific community's consensus regarding anthropogenic climate change. Her scholarship has earned numerous accolades, including the 2019 John Desmond Bernal Prize from the Society for Social Studies of Science and a Guggenheim Fellowship. Through her teaching, writing, and public engagement, Oreskes continues to illuminate the complex relationship between science, politics, and society, urging greater accountability in how evidence is presented to the public.
