By the 1950s, Ford had earned acclaim as one of Hollywood's premier dancers, often gracing ballrooms and social events rather than traditional musicals. His versatility allowed him to appear in numerous war films, portraying soldiers and high-ranking officers. As the popularity of television westerns surged, Ford found opportunities to showcase his talents at square dances and as a dancer alongside leading ladies. Notably, he became a familiar face on the classic series *Gunsmoke*, where he played various roles, including townspeople, bank tellers, and dignitaries.

In 1968, as his film opportunities began to dwindle, Ford chose to retire in Colorado, where he embraced skiing and continued his passion for ballroom dancing, even competing with his wife in contests. Though often overlooked as an extra, Ford's legacy lies in his ability to elevate the performances of those around him, leaving behind a rich body of film work that will be appreciated by future generations.
