Majel Coleman (February 22, 1903 – July 27, 1980) was an American actress and model born in Mason, Ohio, whose brief but memorable career unfolded during the silent film era. Her early attempts to gain his attention proved fruitless, and her enthusiasm for other studios waned—until fate intervened in a most unusual way.

A small stray dog followed Coleman home one day, only to be frightened by her police dog. The pup leapt from her porch, breaking its leg on the pavement below. As Coleman chased after the injured animal, DeMille’s car nearly struck her. The director helped her rush the puppy to a veterinarian, and that chance encounter changed everything. In March 1925, DeMille signed Coleman to a contract, testing her for small roles in his upcoming productions.

Coleman’s elegantly sculpted hands became her signature—so admired that she frequently served as a hand double in films. In 1926, she was named one of the fourteen most beautiful women in the world, alongside contemporaries like Sally Rand and Olive Borden.

Her filmography includes appearances in *Bluebeard's Eighth Wife* (1923), *Soft Shoes* (1925), *West of Broadway* (1926), and *Corporal Kate* (1926). In 1927, she portrayed Procula, wife of Pontius Pilate, in DeMille’s epic *The King of Kings*. Her final credits include *The Girl in the Glass Cage* (1929) and *Romance of the Rio Grande* (1929).

Coleman married Academy Award-winning set decorator Victor Gangelin and lived in Los Angeles until her death in Paramount, California, in 1980, at age 77.
