Jonathan Hale, originally named Jonathan Hatley, was a Canadian actor born on March 21, 1891, in Hamilton, Ontario. Before embarking on his acting career, he served in the Diplomatic Corps. Additionally, he gained recognition for portraying Inspector Fernack in several RKO Pictures' The Saint films.

In 1950, Hale made notable appearances in the television series The Cisco Kid as Barry Owens. He also featured in two episodes of the iconic Adventures of Superman: in "The Evil Three," he played a villainous Southern Colonel, and in "Panic in the Sky," he took on the role of the lead astronomer at the Metropolis Observatory, which was actually filmed at a California location.

Throughout his career, Hale appeared in various television programs, including the religious anthology series Crossroads, The Loretta Young Show, Brave Eagle, Schlitz Playhouse, The Joey Bishop Show, and Walt Disney Presents: "A Tribute to Joel Chandler Harris."

Tragically, Hale took his own life on February 28, 1966, at the age of 74, at the Motion Picture & Television Country House and Hospital in Woodland Hills, California. His death was marked by the discovery of a .38 caliber pistol nearby. For over four decades, his grave at Valhalla Memorial Park Cemetery in North Hollywood remained unmarked until a headstone was finally placed there in 2013, thanks to contributions from the fan-based group "Dearly Departed," honoring his memory with the words, "We Remembered You."
