A committed Marxist, Lenin formulated a distinct interpretation of Marxism known as Leninism, which laid the groundwork for a one-party communist state led by the Russian Communist Party.

Lenin's political journey was deeply influenced by personal tragedy; the execution of his brother in 1887 for revolutionary activities spurred his commitment to socialist ideals. Expelled from Kazan Imperial University for protesting against the Tsarist regime, he pursued legal studies while actively engaging in revolutionary activities. Following the February Revolution of 1917, Lenin returned to Russia and led the October Revolution, which resulted in the Bolsheviks seizing power.
