By 1948, his talents had brought him to the National Theatre, where mentorship under Thế Lữ transformed him into a professional actor and propelled him into leading roles in major stage productions.

His career extended to the Soviet Union, where he commanded attention in principal parts within Leniniana works by playwrights Mikhail Shatrov and Nikolai Pogodin. This international stint earned him the prestigious Order of Lenin, a testament to his artistic excellence abroad.

Mạnh Linh’s cinematic contributions proved equally impactful. In 1959, he headlined “Chung một dòng sông,” a landmark production recognized as North Vietnam’s first post-colonial film and a cornerstone of revolutionary cinema. Collaborations with director Hải Ninh followed, culminating in the 1988 triumph “Tướng về hưu” (The General Retires), which secured top honors at the Vietnam Film Festival and brought him the People’s Artist title.

However, 1996 brought a dramatic fall from grace. Charged as an accomplice in his daughter’s debt evasion scheme, he received an eight-year sentence, leading to the revocation of his People’s Artist title. Age permitted him to serve under house arrest, after which he faded from public view, with presumed passing sometime in the 2010s.
