Read morerumental in advancing the field of climate attribution—the science of determining the extent to which specific extreme weather events, such as heatwaves and floods, can be linked to human-induced global warming. He has published extensively on the subject and has contributed to major international assessments, including those by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

One of his notable achievements includes leading studies that provided early evidence of a human fingerprint on global temperature rises. His team’s work has helped quantify the role of greenhouse gas emissions in driving long-term climate trends, as well as in shaping the likelihood of individual extreme events.

Beyond his research, Stott is a committed science communicator, frequently engaging with the public and policymakers to explain the realities of climate change. He has also been involved in developing tools and methodologies that allow for more rapid analysis of climate data, enhancing the ability to respond to emerging climate risks.

Through his leadership and scientific contributions, Stott has become a key figure in the global effort to understand and address the challenges posed by a warming planet.
