Over his career, Parajanov worked across Ukraine, Georgia, and Armenia, crafting films that defied convention and Soviet-era constraints.

His masterwork, *Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors* (1965), a hypnotic adaptation of a Carpathian folk tale, brought him international acclaim and remains a cornerstone of poetic cinema. He followed this with *The Color of Pomegranates* (1969), a luminous, non-narrative portrait of the Armenian troubadour Sayat-Nova, which has since become a touchstone for artists and filmmakers worldwide. His later works, including *The Legend of Suram Fortress* (1985) and *Ashik Kerib* (1988), further showcased his singular visual language, rich with symbolism, folklore, and intricate compositions.

Beyond filmmaking, Parajanov pioneered a unique collage art form, blending conceptualism with folk motifs. However, these works remained largely hidden during his lifetime, created in secret amid political persecution and imprisonment. They only surfaced publicly after his death on July 20, 1990, revealing another layer of his genius. Today, Parajanov is remembered as a defiant creative spirit whose art transcended borders, censorship, and time.
