Coogan's transition to television began when he joined the DuMont Television Network, where he took on the role of Captain Video on June 27, 1949. His commitments to both the show and the Broadway stage led to a grueling schedule, as he would rush from live telecasts to performances in *Diamond Lil*. Following his time on *Captain Video*, Coogan starred as Paul Raven in the soap opera *Love of Life* and appeared in several films, including *Three Hours to Kill* and *The Revolt of Mamie Stover*. He also gained recognition for his portrayal of Marshal Matthew Wayne in the NBC series *The Californians* and had recurring roles in shows like *Vice Raid*. After a prolific career in film and television, Coogan stepped back from acting around 1964, later finding fulfillment as a professional golfer and instructor.
